Apple TV With Bluetooth 4.0
This is the most interesting bit about the rumored refresh of the Apple TV yet. Apple hasn’t talked a lot about the inclusion of Bluetooth 4.0 in both the iPhone 4S and the recent MacBooks, but it’s clearly there for a reason.
What if we do see some sort of new Apple peripherals as a result? Perhaps a large Magic Trackpad for iOS games running on the Apple TV? Or, as 9to5 Mac suggests, maybe this is about Siri integration? Or maybe it’s simply about a better (faster) iPhone/Apple TV connection for using the great Remote app.
I have no real clue, I just can’t believe Apple would bother to include the new Bluetooth chip in the Apple TV if they didn’t intend to use it — and soon.
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuup.
parislemon: Speaking Of Shoddy iOS Apps...
Can someone please explain to me why on Earth the Gmail iOS app only features Push Notification badging? It’s infuriating.
Given that the app is basically just a wrapper around UIWebView, the only reason to get it is for Push Notifications. But what I want in a Push Notification is not the…
MG has become an outsider version of Steve Jobs, letting developers know when there work is ‘Shit’. And that is exactly what they need. I haven’t even downloaded the gmail app. Doesn’t seem worth the few clicks. And the Facebook app drives my girlfriend and myself up the wall! Repeatedly, we’ll comment on a picture, only to have the comment go to some completely unrelated picture. It’s insanely craptastic. Developers need to stop getting the apps out there without making sure they are polished and as near perfect as possible. I’ve gotten so weary of the FB app, that I won’t even use it to actually leave comments anymore. Therefore, the app is useless! Shit work should not be tolerated.
The Book
Just finished my week with the Steve Jobs biography. I’m both extremely optimistic of Apple’s future and totally totally dispirited. Steve knew what he was doing setting Apple up for the future, and it will no doubt continue forward with innovative, end to end products that will trump all others. However, they will no longer be done with him as the artist. His methods will be used, but his taste and style were his own. And for that, I am sad.
"Too Old"
Google isn’t upgrading their flagship Nexus One to the new Ice Cream Sandwich flavor of Android. Why? It’s “too old”.
The Nexus One was released on January 5, 2010 — not even two years ago.
Apple often gets dinged for cutting support to older hardware, forcing users to upgrade if they want the latest and greatest software. So I feel it’s necessary to point out that the iPhone 3GS is 7 months older than the Nexus One. And guess what it runs? Apple’s just-released latest and greatest operating system, iOS 5.
Also, another point people give to Android is that it is “open” and can be installed an anything. If that were really the case, ICS would be on the Nexus One. For the most part, Android is just as closed as iOS.
iPhone 4S and it’s Bluetooth 4.0’ness
MacRumors Article on bluetooth 4.0 in the iPhone today: http://t.co/1smJ3258
I think I alluded to this before, but I’ll restate: I believe Bluetooth 4.0 is basically Apple’s answer to NFC. They didn’t make a fuss about being the only phone on the market with this technology, so that they could save it, almost like they did with wireless N on the MacBooks back in late 2006. (similar but slightly different, haha) Even the Galaxy Nexus, which came out weeks after, has only Bluetooth 3.0.
Heres the thinking as I see it: okay, NFC hasn’t really taken off. Consumers aren’t clamoring for it like Google thinks they are. But if Google gets it to take off in a great way (Android Beam anyone?) then we can send out a software update and bam! New feature!
Now I’m not am engineer nor do I know the full extent of b4.0’s abilities, but I’d bet that it can be made to do most everything NFC can and more! Except for being compatible with existing Credit Card touchless payment systems.
All in all, I think that by the end of the 4S (meaning the time it is superceeded by another iPhone) it will have more features than it did on launch day. It will slowly differentiate itself even more from the iPhone 4.
Nano Watch: Followup
Well, there you go Apple. Motorola beat ya to it. Not that it matters, no one will buy their version. But now it’s clearly obvious that we nerds want digital watches with wifi! Get on it! :-)
